Best Time of Year to Move to Florida (Avoid These Months)

October through April is the sweet spot. Here's why summer is the most expensive and most disruptive time to move.

The single biggest variable in your Florida moving cost isn't distance or home size — it's the month you book. Off-peak moves (October through April) average 20 – 30% less than peak season (May through September).

Why summer is expensive: nationwide demand peaks because school is out, leases turn over June 1, and college students move. Florida adds two layers — hurricane season begins June 1 and ends November 30, and snowbird departures clog the system in May.

If you must move in summer, book at least 8 weeks ahead and demand a binding written estimate. Reputable carriers will tell you that mid-week moves (Tuesday or Wednesday) cost less than weekend moves.

October is the goldilocks month. Hurricane season is winding down, snowbirds haven't arrived in force, and crews have availability. November and early December are also strong windows.

Avoid the worst weeks: late June through mid-August (peak hurricane and demand), the last week of any month (lease turnover), and the week of Labor Day (price surge plus weather).
